Fingal Head Retrograde Panorama

When creating this image, I wanted to show off Mars’ entire journey across the sky. Mars was imaged every few weeks, for nearly a year to capture its movement from East to West.

As for the location itself I chose the Giants Causeway in Fingal Head. The beautiful hexagonal basalt columns are thought to have come from prehistoric times. They were created when lava began to cool from the outside towards the centre, shrinking and causing the hexagonal patterns to appear.

Storms had passed through during the day leaving the night sky exceptionally clear, and the sea very rough. Large waves surged in and broke on the beach almost continuously throughout the evening, making for gorgeous ethereal water on the rocks and the causeway itself.
