Vancouver Planet

Vancouver is considered one of the most liveable cities in the world, and it is a wonderful place to visit. The city incorporates many parks and wilderness areas to explore, including Stanley Park, which unlike most parks, has not been developed by a landscape architect. Rather is the evolution of a natural forest with few man-made structures. Owing to this, it is as densely forested today as in the 1800s, containing some half a million trees.

The park is bordered by a magnificent stone seawall to prevent erosion of the foreshore by passing ships. This has allowed pedestrians to enjoy the stunning views along the edge of the park and of the surrounding harbour and city.

This image was taken on a chilly winter night, from the water’s edge below the seawall. To the top of the image the majestic Lions Gate Bridge can be seen, and across the harbour the lights of West and North Vancouver as well as snow on Grouse Mountain just to the right of the bridge. This piece was created to show off both beautiful aspects of the city, the wild forest to the left, as well as the remarkable modern city and bridge to the top and right, on a peaceful wintry night.
