Infinite

I love imaging panoramas and so I wanted to see what a star trails panorama would look like. I spent quite some time taking practise shots to learn how to get the best results possible, and I also did a lot of planning. What length of star trails looked best? How to align and process the enormous number of images that went into this shoot? A lot of work, time, and thought went into this final image!

Next, I found a location that I felt would work well. I then waited for a clear, moonless night to take the photos. The star trails took most of the night to image, and the pre-sunrise glow added nice light to the foreground and the sky. Happily, the water from a wave swirled a little on its way back out to sea, creating the slight whirl in the water in the foreground.

I’ve named this image a little differently, as after a long peaceful night enjoying the many thousands of winter stars and gently lapping waves, I felt this shoot deserved a more evocative title. Infinite. Reflective of the feeling of enormity I experienced enjoying the stars and the Universe staring down at me that evening.
