Norah Head – Star Spikes Planet

Norah Head, a lovely headland on the NSW Central Coast, is home to a magnificent lighthouse, that is still in use today after nearly 120 years of operation.

Immediately below the headland that the lighthouse is perched on, a rock platform extends out into the sea. At high tide much of the northern edge of the platform sits underwater leaving only a few weathered rocks sitting just above the waterline.  For this shoot I had to choose a night when the tide would be at just the right height after sunset to have water surrounding the rocks, and also image on a nice still evening when the water was calm and clear.

For this particular piece I went with a comet style of star trails with diffraction spikes on the stars to emphasize their amazing variety of colours.
