Sydney Storm Tops Wide Panorama 1

The Sydney skyline is an absolutely iconic sight, the perfect foreground for the often-spectacular skies above. I’ve spent a great many occasions watching the weather evolve throughout the day, hoping for just the right light to occur.

On the day I captured these images I watched large storms develop to the north of Sydney, and as their tops reached the fast-moving winds aloft, they formed long, large, cirrus tails that were swept downwind, into an impressive display of the storm's enormous size. I knew the setting sun would add another gorgeous element to these spectacular cloud formations, and I watched in awe as the clouds took on breathtaking colours.

The massive cirrus clouds flowing off the tops of the storms took on a brilliant soft yellow glow that turned into a deep orange as the sun lowered and highlighted the enormity of the storms. It was truly a humbling sight to see such an immense force of nature dwarfing the city beneath, a view that I was lucky enough to enjoy and to image.

This piece is finished as a wider panorama to show the magnitude of the storm’s immense tops.
