Townsville

Castle Hill in Townsville is a heritage listed pink granite monolith, which rises to nearly 300m above the Queensland coast. The summit boasts magnificent views of the city of Townsville, Magnetic Island and Cleveland Bay. It is a stunning, expansive, peaceful view from the top, one I have marveled over many times. It is also a view that perfectly suited a different style of star trails that I wanted to try.

On the evening of the shoot, I walked up the goat track with my gear, and then enjoyed the evening sea breeze as the sun set and I positioned my camera. As the Sun’s light slipped further away, a sea of city lights began to awaken beneath me. The narrow lookout I had chosen allowed me to capture the blaze of the city lights beneath, and the cool blue of the late evening sky. A lovely delicate layer of cirrus clouds rested on the horizon.

As for the trails themselves, I wanted to try something unique, something befitting such a wonderful view. I had imagined this unique shot in my mind some time ago, however the result was far more spectacular than I had hoped to create.
